Zenam
The brand celebrates the fusion of different worlds, where Africa, Europe and Italy come together in a visual and stylistic language that forms the beating heart of Paul Roger Tanonkou’s collection and reflects his personal experiences and cultural vision. The richness of the diverse identities that converge within the designer as an individual – his Bamiléké origins (an ethnic group from Cameroon), alongside the influence of French colonisation, his travels through various countries, his time in Paris and, finally, his experience in Milan – have all helped to shape a unique vision that integrates multiple cultures, styles and traditions. Prints inspired by African iconography, combined with ‘Made in Italy’ sartorial skill, create a dialogue between past and present, between tradition and innovation, but above all between the multiple identities that define him. Kuba, a handcrafted fabric made by women from the Kasaï region of Congo – a powerful symbol of African identity – is blended with leather. The contrast between the softness of the leather and the natural texture of the Kuba adds a unique dimension to the pieces. The patchwork technique, using different types of leather, creates unique designs that tell stories through the interplay of textures and colours. Fringes are another distinctive feature, lending movement and dynamism to the garments and accessories.
